Former Nigeria international Festus Odini has strongly disagreed with claims that players from the Nigeria Premier Football League are not good enough for the Super Eagles, insisting that they simply need the opportunity to prove themselves.

Reacting to recent comments dismissing domestic players, Odini described the notion as unfair and misleading.
“That’s not true,” he said.
According to the former midfielder, talent exists within the Nigerian league, but many players are never given the platform to showcase their abilities at the highest level.
“The quality is there,” he implied.
Odini argued that without exposure and opportunities, it is impossible to properly assess the potential of home-based players.
“They need a chance,” he noted.
He emphasized that several players in the past have successfully transitioned from the domestic league to the national team when given the opportunity.
“We’ve seen it before,” he added.
For him, writing off an entire league ignores the realities of player development and the importance of nurturing talent locally.
“It’s the wrong mindset,” he stressed.
Odini also pointed out that integrating domestic players can strengthen competition within the squad and create a more balanced team.
“It helps the team,” he said.
His comments highlight the ongoing debate about selection policies within Nigerian football, particularly the balance between foreign-based and home-based players.
