Chairman of Nigeria Weightlifting Federation (NWF) committee for guidelines on the transfer of athletes, Dr Steve Olarinoye has explained that the major objective of the panel is to create clear, fair and enforceable rules within the sport.
Sports247 reports that Olarinoye’s explanation comes hot on the heels of the announcement of the successful completion of duty and submission of the committee’s report, which was described as a milestone in the NWF’s reform.

Olarinoye added that the committee was tasked with developing a comprehensive framework to regulate athlete transfers across states and clubs, assuring that they arrived at proper guidelines through a thorough and deliberate approach.
With officials of the federation also harping on the emergence of guidelines that will encourage transparency and administrative excellence, NWF’s president, Dr. Ibrahim Abdul received accolades for his ‘proactive leadership.’
Many stakeholders pointed out that Dr Abdul also continues to ensure that issues pertaining to movement of athletes no longer generate disputes or administrative bottlenecks, as he is committed to fostering unity, fairness and order.
Towards that end, the NWF’s Committee on Guidelines for Transfer of Athletes developed rules that will eliminate challenges by introducing a structured, transparent and equitable system that protects the interests of everyone.
Olarinoye assured that they gave the best efforts and expatiated, “The committee took time to carefully study existing challenges and align our recommendations with international best practices as well as models from other sports federations.
“Our goal was to put everything in proper perspective creating clear, fair, and enforceable guidelines that will stand the test of time. We believe this framework will bring clarity and stability to athlete transfers.”
A press release by the NWF’s media committee added that more information and detailed explanations of the committee’s recommendations will be provided once the Annual General Meeting ratifies the report.
