Nigeria’s campaign at the African Armwrestling Championship 2026 is officially underway, with a 25-member delegation arriving in Accra, Ghana, for the crucial qualifier ahead of the 2027 African Games in Cairo, Egypt.

The team arrived in Accra at approximately 12:30 GMT on April 30, immediately shifting focus to competition mode ahead of the championship scheduled for May 1–2 at the Borteyman Sports Complex.
From the perspective of the President of the Nigerian Armwrestling Federation, Samuel Jackson, the objective is clear—secure qualification and build a formidable team for Cairo 2027, where a total of 84 medals (28 gold, 28 silver, 28 bronze) will be contested in armwrestling.
“It was a tough journey, but we thank God for a safe arrival. We are here to qualify, as our athletes are well prepared,” Jackson told Sports247 upon arrival.
He stressed that the athletes represent Nigeria’s finest, having emerged from rigorous national trials in Lagos, and expressed confidence in their readiness to compete at the highest level.
“Our best athletes are here to represent Nigeria, and we are hopeful that they will secure the necessary qualification tickets for Egypt,” he added.

The president also acknowledged the rising standard of armwrestling across Africa, noting that Nigeria must remain focused and disciplined to maintain its competitive edge.
With final preparations ongoing, attention now turns to the main event, where Nigeria will battle alongside the continent’s best for qualification spots.
