Sesko price bumps up

Manchester United signed Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig last summer, but they are not yet done paying for the striker.

The Old Trafford outfit agreed a sizeable €76.5 million deal with Leipzig. So far, Sesko has been somewhat hit-and-miss. While he has scored important goals, he has often been a super sub and was slow to come to grips with Premier League football.

The Bundesliga side made sure to include provisions in the deal that will see them benefit from his continued development. According to Sky Germany, the Red Bulls will earn an additional €4 million from the Sesko deal this summer.

These bonus payments are triggered through performance and team-related success. Goals and appearances will drive up Sesko’s cost, as will qualification for the Champions League. This €4m payment won’t be the end of it either.

It is stated that there are more add-ons that can “realistically” be triggered over the next few years, ultimately taking the total cost of the Sesko deal to around €85m. This would put him on par with Jadon Sancho as Man Utd’s fourth-most-expensive signing

Mainoo agrees Man Utd extension

Kobbie Mainoo has reached a full agreement to sign a new long-term contract at Manchester United, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The England midfielder was heavily linked with an Old Trafford exit last summer and in January, after falling out of favour under former boss Ruben Amorim, but he has returned to prominence since the interim appointment of Michael Carrick and he is now set to commit his future to the club.

Mainoo’s representatives have been in talks with the Man Utd hierarchy for several weeks and a deal has now officially been finalised, as per Romano.

The transfer expert posted on X: “BREAKING: Kobbie Mainoo has agreed all terms of [a] new contract at Man United, all set to sign!

“The agreement will be valid until June 2031 with increased salary, as always reported. Understand it will be official before [the] end of the season, Kobbie could sign this week.”

Rashford still given Barcelona chance

Marcus Rashford’s hopes of securing a permanent transfer to Barcelona have taken another twist after a new report over the Manchester United star’s future.

Rashford has been on loan with Barca this season and the Catalan side have an option to make the move permanent for €30 million but they are reluctant to match that fee.

United have been adamant that they will not lower their asking price for Rashford due to their belief that the value is already on the low side and that more teams will be willing to meet their demands.

However, Sky Sport Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg has now claimed that Rashford ‘should stay’ at Barcelona after gaining approval from manager Hansi Flick.

Barcelona are said to be pushing for a second loan spell and talks are ongoing with United despite the Premier League side insisting that Rashford would return to the club if the €30m option is not exercised.

Carrick confirms Casemiro departure

Michael Carrick has confirmed that Casemiro is still on course to leave Manchester United when his contract expires at the end of the season despite the midfielder’s form in recent weeks.

Casemiro scored in United’s 2-1 win over Brentford on Monday and was emotional as fans chanted for ‘one more year’ but Carrick insisted that the decision was final.

“It’s pretty clear – from both sides it’s pretty clear the decision,” Carrick said. “It’s pretty clear, too, how much it means to him [playing for United] and probably the situation and the clarity of the decision has helped everything to be understandable for the supporters as well.

“Credit to him because he’s given absolutely everything and had some big moments for us, so all round it’s quite a nice direction for it to be taken.”

Meetings scheduled to axe ten players

Manchester United have scheduled meetings this week to discuss players that will be moved on during the upcoming transfer window, with up to ten stars on the chopping block.

The Sun report that clarity will be provided on the futures of certain players to pave the way for smooth departures, with the likes of Joshua Zirkzee, Manuel Ugarte and Andre Onana free to find new clubs.

Marcus Rashford will also be allowed to leave once again along with backup goalkeeper Altay Bayindir, while Casemiro, Jadon Sancho and Tyrell Malacia will depart on free transfers upon the expiry of their contracts in June.

Academy duo Tyler Fredricson and Toby Collyer are also expected to be handed exits by United as the club aim to restructure their squad going forward.
