United have been adamant that they will not lower their asking price for Rashford due to their belief that the value is already on the low side and that more teams will be willing to meet their demands.

The impasse led to fears that Barca were ready to pull out of the deal altogether, even though Rashford is desperate for the move and is willing to lower his salary expectations to make it happen.

However, Sky Sport Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg has now claimed that Rashford ‘should stay’ at Barcelona after gaining approval from manager Hansi Flick.

Barcelona are said to be pushing for a second loan spell and talks are ongoing with United despite the Premier League side insisting that Rashford would return to the club if the €30m option is not exercised.

Rashford makes fighting case for Barcelona move

Rashford has been an important figure for Barcelona this season and he scored his seventh La Liga goal of the season on Saturday against Getafe in a crucial display.

Previous reports had suggested that Rashford had blown his ‘golden opportunity’ for a permanent move after poor performances in big matches in recent weeks.

But Rashford’s goalscoring cameo off the bench against Getafe made it three goals in his last six games, with 13 goal contributions in 28 league matches – only 15 of which have been starts.

Barcelona have been impressed by Rashford’s conduct and would like to keep the England international if the deal is financially viable, however alternative options have been explored, such as exercising the buy-back option for Betis star Abde Ezzalzouli.

Much could depend on how Rashford finishes the season and whoever blinks first between Barca and United as negotiations drag on over a deal.
