Kobbie Mainoo has reached a full agreement to sign a new long-term contract at Manchester United, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The England midfielder was heavily linked with an Old Trafford exit last summer and in January, after falling out of favour under former boss Ruben Amorim, but he has returned to prominence since the interim appointment of Michael Carrick and he is now set to commit his future to the club.

Mainoo’s representatives have been in talks with the Man Utd hierarchy for several weeks and a deal has now officially been finalised, as per Romano.

The transfer expert posted on X: “BREAKING: Kobbie Mainoo has agreed all terms of [a] new contract at Man United, all set to sign!

“The agreement will be valid until June 2031 with increased salary, as always reported. Understand it will be official before [the] end of the season, Kobbie could sign this week.”

Mainoo’s current deal was due to expire in 2027, but he is on the verge of officially penning fresh terms at his boyhood club.

The midfielder has made 26 appearances across all competitions so far this season, providing three assists, and he has solidified his place as the club’s preferred partner for Casemiro over the past few months, with Manuel Ugarte falling down the pecking order as a result.

Analysis: Kobbie Mainoo new contract is superb news for Man Utd

News that Mainoo has reached a full agreement on a new contract will be received extremely well by Man Utd supporters, and for good reason.

While the Englishman was inexplicably cast aside by the aforementioned Amorim, he is back to his back under Carrick and he has been in superb form over recent months, even earning a national team recall for the recent March fixtures.

Speaking to Sky Sports after Man Utd’s 2-1 win over Brentford on Monday evening, Mainoo admitted: “I’ve loved every minute of it, especially under the boss now. Just feeling the confidence.”

Mainoo has repaid the faith shown in him by Carrick with a string of immense performances and with Casemiro leaving this summer, the England star will be handed even more responsibility next season – something he certainly looks ready for.
