A viral video shows journalists raising concerns about a lack of Secret Service presence moments before a shooting forced the evacuation of President Trump from the White House Correspondents’ Dinner
A shocking hot mic moment has captured two journalists appearing to discuss security flaws at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.
The exchange occurred just moments before the event, held on Saturday night, was thrown into chaos by a shooting incident at the Washington Hilton, forcing the evacuation of President Donald Trump and other senior officials.
In the footage, which has gone viral on X, a Fox 5 correspondent says: “They’re not even trying anymore…they’re not even secret service people. It’s like the girls who work here are holding the door.”
The clip has racked up more than 500,000 views on X, with scores of users weighing in.
One wrote: “More confirmation in complete malfeasance of security or staged either way doesn’t look good.”
Another commented: “Why is hotel security at the front door and not secret service?”
A third observed: “Most of these journalists knew in real time, before anything happened, that stuff looked suspicious.”
In the wake of the shooting incident at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, a string of baseless conspiracy theories and rumours have spread rapidly across social media.
These claims, dismissed by White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt as “crazy nonsense”, range from allegations of a “staged” event to speculation about foreign involvement.
Some users are claiming the incident was orchestrated to justify the $400 million construction of a new, secure White House ballroom. This theory gained momentum after President Trump declared at a press conference that the incident highlighted the necessity for such a facility.
Cole Tomas Allen, a 31 year old from Torrance, California, has been charged with the attempted assassination of President Trump.
Allen, who reportedly referred to himself as a “Friendly Federal Assassin” in written documents, is being held without plea ahead of a hearing on Thursday.
Early findings indicate the gunman deliberately targeted Trump and members of his administration.
Investigators are currently scrutinising a manifesto discovered in the suspect’s hotel room that allegedly details his plans to target officials.
