Nigeria’s National Sports Commission (NSC) director-general, Honourable Bukola Olopade has disclosed that various programmes put in place by the present administration are part of their well-structured pathway towards sporting excellence for the country.
Sports247 reports that Olopade made this declaration while revealing details about the maiden National Intermediate Games and plans for trials of the country’s talents in the United Kingdom.

He explained that the UK event will be for Nigerian athletes in diaspora, as another step towards wider talent discovery and to further strengthen the NSC’s efforts in sports development.
Olopade added that the Invited Diaspora Athletes Programme is meant to integrate Nigerian-born athletes based abroad into the country’s sporting structure and create clearer routes for them into the national teams.
The NSC’s DG revealed further that diaspora athletes will be invited to participate in the new Nigerian Intermediate Games, which will be a bridge between youth competitions and senior events.
“What we are doing is a deliberate, well-structured pathway to sporting excellence. From discovering talents at the grassroots through the Invited Junior Athletes programme, to opening doors for our diaspora talents.
“(We are) now creating the Intermediate Games to bridge the development gap, we are building a sustainable pipeline for Nigeria’s future champions,” Olopade declared with a strong tone of enthusiasm.
