Former Nigeria international Duke Udi has stated that Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali should not be considered for national team selection if he remains without a club.

Speaking on the importance of form and consistency, Udi emphasized that national team invitations must be based on active performance at club level, not past reputation.
“The national team is not a rehabilitation centre,” he said.
According to the former midfielder, Nigeria must begin to adopt the standards seen in top footballing nations, where players are selected strictly on merit and current form.
“We must follow global standards,” he implied.
Udi argued that allowing inactive players into the squad could negatively impact the team’s performance, particularly in crucial matches where sharpness and match fitness are essential.
“You need match rhythm,” he noted.
While acknowledging Nwabali’s quality and past contributions, Udi insisted that no player should be guaranteed a place without regular competitive football.
“It’s about readiness,” he stressed.
He also highlighted the need for competition within the squad, suggesting that other goalkeepers who are actively playing should be given opportunities.
“Others deserve chances,” he added.
