Chelsea search for a new head coach following Liam Rosenior’s sacking on Wednesday evening, with Andoni Iraola a leading candidate for the Blues
Andoni Iraola is among the leading candidates to replace Liam Rosenior – but Chelsea will not rush the appointment of a new head coach this summer.
Iraola will depart the Vitality Stadium at the end of the season, with his Cherries contract reaching its conclusion. The Spaniard was among the options to replace Enzo Maresca in January, but Chelsea opted with Rosenior due to their working relationship with the 41-year-old at Strasbourg.
Iraola remains of interest, sources say, though at the time of writing, there are no active talks in relation to appointing Rosenior’s successor. The Bournemouth boss refused to discuss the prospect of becoming the new Chelsea head coach when asked following the Cherries’ draw with Leeds United: “I think I said when I announced I was not continuing here, for me, now, it’s about Bournemouth.”

BlueCo, the consortium that owns Chelsea, will not rush the process as they seek a long-term head coach to lead their ambitious project.
The club are looking for someone who aligns with their long-term vision and is able to develop the young squad they have at their disposal. A more considered approach will be taken this time as senior figures within the club look to learn from previous mistakes, sources say.
Chelsea supporters protested outside Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening, ahead of the Blues’ defeat to Manchester United, to voice their discontent with the ownership group. There is an acknowledgement within the five-strong group of sporting directors that they have not got every decision right and there is now a real focus on improving in that regard.
