Pep Guardiola reveals his replacement as Man City manager

Pep Guardiola has approved his successor at Manchester City as well as a replacement for one of his key players who will leave the club this summer.

Guardiola’s future has come into doubt in recent months, with some believing that the 55-year-old could end his ten-year spell with City this summer even though he still has a year to run on his contract.

While Guardiola has previously confirmed that he is ‘closer to leaving’ City than staying, no formal decision has publicly been made over his future amid the club’s push for the Premier League title.

City are believed to have explored potential replacements in case a change of manager is required but Guardiola believes that his former player Vincent Kompany will eventually take the reigns at the Etihad.

Guardiola said: “I’m not suspicious to say (that Kompany could be City manager). I said it a long time ago when we played Burnley. I saw the game and said that guy will be manager sooner or later.

“But he’s still so young and he’s still got years left at Bayern Munich. But sooner or later, I had the feeling that, just in case, he will decide to come back to England, Manchester will be in his mind and in his heart and hopefully that path will cross in his life.”

John Stones to leave Man City as Guardiola confirms successor

While Guardiola’s future remains up in the air, it was confirmed on Wednesday that John Stones will leave the club after ten years when his contract expires in the summer.

Although Guardiola refused to formally confirm Stones’ departure, the Spanish coach also spoke about another City prospect in Vitor Reis, who could end up replacing the England international in the club’s defence after an impressive loan spell at affiliate club Girona.

“The reason we sent him to Girona is because here, due to his age, he wouldn’t have had many opportunities to play,” Guardiola said.

“He has grown as a player. He has faced the best strikers in Spain, which is always difficult. The people in Girona are very happy with him, and we will make a decision about his future in the summer.”
