Anthony Gordon is edging closer to leaving Newcastle United this summer amid significant transfer interest from Arsenal, Bayern Munich and Liverpool.

The England international has been heavily linked with a high-profile St James’ Park departure in recent weeks and it’s understood that he is exploring his options ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window.

Sky Sports have reported that Gordon is “open” to joining Bayern this summer, while The Times now claim that Vincent Kompany’s side are the “clear favourites” to secure his signature ahead of fellow suitors Arsenal and Liverpool.

Furthermore, it’s reported that Newcastle are prepared to open talks to sell the 25-year-old to Bayern if they match their €86 million (£75m) asking price.

However, Bayern’s initial valuation stands at €63m (£55m), which is an offer that Newcastle will not entertain. No club-to-club discussions have taken place thus far, but negotiations are expected to be scheduled in the coming weeks, with Bayern eager to agree a deal and Newcastle willing to accept a sale for the right price.

It’s understood that Bayern are keen to dip back into the Premier League transfer market to sign Gordon following the recent successes of Harry Kane and Michael Olise at the Allianz Arena, while Newcastle will need to sell at least one of their prized assets in order to fund their summer transfer business.

Eddie Howe drops Anthony Gordon exit hint

When asked about transfer interest in Gordon ahead of his side’s 2-1 defeat against Bournemouth on Saturday, Howe admitted: “I’m not going to play a player, any player, if I don’t feel they’re 100% committed to the club and to its future.

“Because that commitment, that resolve, what a player gives the team, has to be total.”

Sure enough, Gordon was then excluded from the matchday squad to face Andoni Iraola’s team in the biggest hint yet that a summer exit is on the cards.

Verdict: Who should Anthony Gordon join this summer?

While Bayern are reportedly the frontrunners for Gordon’s signature this summer, a move to the Allianz Arena may not be the best choice if he wants to prioritise consistent game time.

Kompany has rotated his squad extremely well across all competitions this season, but Luis Diaz would be expected to start ahead of Gordon in the biggest matches, including in the Champions League, and a back-up role may not be ideal for the Englishman.

At Arsenal and Liverpool, however, he would likely become an immediate starter. The former are set to sell Gabriel Martinelli or Leandro Trossard this summer, while the latter are eager to sign an upgrade on Cody Gakpo, who has endured a tricky 2025-26 season.

Gordon has scored 17 goals and provided five assists in 46 games this campaign, and although his Newcastle contract isn’t due to expire until 2030, a summer departure appears highly likely.
