Scarlett’s Faulkner’s family has been left twice bereaved after her brother, Jason Faulkner, died a few days after serving as a pallbearer at his sister’s Limerick funeral
Loved ones of a man who died just days after carrying his sister’s coffin during her funeral have asked “what are the family gonna do?” and issued a desperate plea after confirming his tragic death.
Scarlett Faulkner, 29, was laid to rest in Limerick, Ireland, on April 17, just a few days after she died in hospital, where she was left in critical condition following an attack in the village of Birdhill on March 21. A teenage girl and woman in her 40s have appeared in court over the attack. Scarlett’s brother, Jason Faulkner, was among her loved ones who served as pallbearers at the ceremony.
Family members sadly confirmed that Jason died just two days after he buried his sister, with loved ones pleading for people to keep his and Scarlett’s parents in their thoughts.

Posting on social media over the weekend, Jason’s cousin, Melissa McCarthy, confirmed Jason was “gone”, “2 days after burying your sister Scarlett”. She wrote: “My heart, 2 days after burying your sister Scarlett, your [sic] gone now Jason, her lovely brother. The laughs we had, oh Jason what are the family gonna do?
“I can’t get my head round it, no doubt Scarlett Faulkner was there to meet you – together again forever. Please keep my aunt Mary and Banny and family in yere [sic] prayers.”
A second unnamed family member also posted about the shock death online as others poured forth to pay tribute to late Jason following the announcement. They said: “Sad world we live in – poor Banny and Mary buried there [sic] daughter Scarlett two days ago and now there [sic] son – God may mind them keep them strong pray for all the family again this is a painful world – rest in peace Jason.”
Another mourner commented on Facebook saying: “So heartbreaking, two lovely angels gone to heaven – rest in peace Jason Faulkner my heart goes out to your family. God wrap your arms around Banny, Mary and family.”
And a third added: “This is just beyond devastating, the nation needs to keep the Faulkner family in their taughts [sic] and prayers, how much heartache can this family take?” Family members posting on social media did not confirm how Jason died. His death comes after Scarlett’s sister, Victoria, told of the “big hole” her death had left in the hearts of those who loved her.
She said during a eulogy: “You have left a big hole in each and everyone of our hearts but you also touched the hearts of many others in this world.
“You were a good mother, daughter, sister, sister-in-law, friend to us all, you have left us with a beautiful little girl, ‘Oceanna’ – a gift from god, who reminds us of you so much.” Scarlett’s funeral Mass was attended by hundreds of people when it was held on Friday at St Munchin’s Church on Clancy Quay, near the city centre of Limerick.
The service was concluded by Victoria, who, after proclaiming those gathered at the ceremony would “love you forever”, promised: “We will get you the justice you deserve.”
