Bayern Munich have just re-signed Noel Aseko from Hannover 96, but the young midfielder could be set for a Premier League transfer amid interest from Aston Villa and Brighton.
The 20-year-old has been a revelation in the 2. Bundesliga this season. Hannover 96 initially loaned Aseko from Bayern II, the Munich outfit’s reserve team, in early 2025. This summer, his move was supposed to become permanent for €1 million.
However, Bayern inserted a buy-back clause in his deal in order to retain full control over his future. This clause was recently triggered for €2.5m, so Hannover at least made a small profit.
Despite the fact that Bayern boss Vincent Kompany is keen to assess Aseko in pre-season, it is far from certain that the midfielder will be playing for the Bundesliga champions-elect next term. Sky Germany reports that Bayern could simply opt to sell him on for a profit.
Aseko certainly has no shortage of suitors after his outstanding season in the second division. AS Roma, Aston Villa, Brighton and Eintracht Frankfurt are all said to be interested in the Germany U21 international.
Why Aseko is in demand
Just looking at his price tag, it is easy to see why Aseko would be in demand. Bayern are reportedly willing to part with him for a fee in the region of just €10m-€12m. This is slightly more than his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) – which, by the way, has skyrocketed this season – of €7.7m.
At such a measly cost, Aseko would be worth every penny. The 20-year-old has been one of the best midfielders in the 2. Bundesliga this season. Thanks to the arrival of Christian Titz, one of the best coaches in Germany, he has taken his game to another level in 2025/26.
Aseko has scored three goals and provided six assists despite being primarily renowned for his defensive tenacity. He has a brilliant awareness of his surroundings and is an expert at thwarting counterattacks.
According to data from analytics firm SciSports, Aseko is the 2. Bundesliga’s runaway leader in so-called “counter interceptions in the opponent’s half.” There is no one even close to him in that department.
Despite his exceptional performance in the German second tier this season, SciSports is not convinced that Aseko is ready for the Premier League just yet. In terms of his current ability, he may struggle to get regular minutes in England.
However, he is only 20 and has significant upside still. In fact, SciSports believes that, if he fulfils his potential, he can become a better player than Douglas Luiz and Ross Barkley at Aston Villa.
The fact that Aseko would have to fight for his place at Villa and Brighton is reflected in SciSports’ Career Advice for the youngster. This tool calculates a Club Fit rating by assessing development prospects, game time and playing style.
Neither Villa nor Brighton have a strong rating. Game time concerns are one factor – though if Brighton were to sell Carlos Baleba, it could be a different story – but there are also question marks over his stylistic fit.

Intriguingly, AS Roma, who are one of the clubs interested in signing him, have the best Club Fit rating with 84 out of 100. They are followed by Spanish sides Villarreal and Sevilla.
In the Premier League, West Ham and Wolves would be strong overall fits, alongside Championship club Southampton. Stylistically, Aseko would be best suited to Leeds United and Porto. They are the only teams in his top 15 to get full marks in the playing style category.
To maximise his playing time, Aseko would be well-advised to first move to another top-five division before leaping into the Premier League. Going straight from the 2. Bundesliga to the English top-flight could be too big a step too soon.
That said, there are certainly clubs that could ease his transition to English football. Aston Villa and Brighton, though, do not appear to be among those clubs. Nevertheless, given how impressive he has been this term, it is no surprise that they are keeping tabs on him.
