Moises Caicedo has been speaking about Chelsea’s Champions League qualification hopes, a trip to Brighton on Tuesday and wearing the captain’s armband instead of Enzo Fernandez
Moises Caicedo insisted Chelsea’s players will do everything in their power to ensure the Champions League race does not slip away from them as the Blues head to Brighton on Tuesday night.
A top-five finish will secure a place amongst Europe’s elite next season, and for Chelsea, four Premier League defeats on the bounce has seen them fall down the table. Mass boos reverberated around Stamford Bridge at the full-time whistle on Saturday night after Manchester United recorded a 1-0 victory in west London.
The Blues had huge chances to score at the weekend but failed to show the killer instinct required in the final third, meaning the side has not scored in more than four Premier League matches.

Caicedo is backing his team to bounce back, starting with a trip to his former club Brighton on Tuesday night.
“For sure, everybody is disappointed because we wanted to win,” said Caicedo. “We created a lot of chances but we couldn’t get the result. But we are looking forward because we have five games left and five games to win, to try to get in the Champions League.”
He continued: “We had the opportunities to score but we didn’t have the luck tonight. Other things were good, we fought until the end to get the three points. Everyone is disappointed but we are looking forward.
“For sure, Brighton are a tough opponent but we are going to fight because we know we have a very good team and we are going to do everything we can to get the three points.”
Caicedo celebrated signing a contract extension at Stamford Bridge last week, committing his future to Chelsea until the summer of 2033. The 24-year-old Ecuador international has established himself as one of the league’s best central midfielders and his performances have been rewarded with a substantial pay rise, making him one of the club’s highest earners.
Caicedo, who wore the captain’s armband on Saturday instead of Enzo Fernandez following the Argentine’s recent ban, is proud of what he has achieved since signing from Brighton almost three years ago.
“I am so happy and so proud of myself because of what I am doing and because I am going to be staying a lot of years here,” the Ecuadorian added. “For sure, we are going to win a lot of trophies.
“Being captain tonight was so nice, and it is always special to have the armband. I am trying to help the team on the pitch and I will always try in every game.”
