FootballTransfers runs through the latest Manchester United transfer news, rumours and gossip, including updates on JJ Gabriel and Elliot Anderson.
JJ Gabriel bombshell
Manchester City tried to sign Man Utd wonderkid JJ Gabriel last summer, as per a shock report from The Telegraph.
The 15-year-old, who has scored 25 goals for Man Utd’s U18 team this season, is regarded as one of England’s brightest young prospects and he has trained with the Red Devils senior side on a number of occasions in 2025-26.
However, he could have been playing for the club’s arch-rivals as Man City reportedly wanted to lure him across the city last summer. It’s claimed that Man Utd feared an exit, but they were ultimately able to convince Gabriel to stay.
Meanwhile, it’s reported that Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid are all tracking his progress.
Elliot Anderson asking price
Manchester United will reportedly be forced to pay a Premier League transfer record fee for a midfielder if they are to secure the signing of Elliot Anderson this summer.
The Nottingham Forest star is Man Utd’s dream candidate to replace the departing Casemiro, although Manchester City also want him amid the imminent exit of Bernardi Silva, while Chelsea have also been linked with a move as they prepare for a major summer window.
Man Utd are monitoring the likes of Adam Wharton, Carlos Baleba, Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes and several other Premier League midfielders too, but Anderson is their priority target. However, they will be forced to pay a fee higher than the €121 million that Chelsea spent on Enzo Fernandez in January 2023, as per David Ornstein.
Speaking to The Athletic, the transfer expert said: “If they sell, Forest want to break the Premier League transfer record for a midfielder, and if they stay true to that, will both of those suitors [Man City and Man Utd] be willing to pay it?”

Bruno Fernandes offer
Galatasaray are set to launch an audacious approach for Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes, as per Takvim.
Heading into the summer, it is still not entirely clear what Fernandes will do. While it is generally believed that he is keen to stay and play Champions League football with Man Utd, he does have rich suitors who are willing to break the bank for him.
Galatasaray are among his suitors, with their move driven by incumbent president Dursun Ozbek, who is gunning for re-election. In order to continue in charge of the club, Ozbek has promised a major makeover of the team and its management, with Fernandes earmarked as a key target.

Anthony Gordon blow
Man Utd have identified Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon as one of their top targets for this summer, but a move to Arsenal seems far more likely at this stage.
Mikel Arteta’s side are set to submit an official bid for Gordon this summer, as exclusively revealed by FootballTransfers, with the club keen to build their squad around a core of talented English players.
Meanwhile, The Sun have confirmed that Arsenal hold a “huge advantage” in the race to sign Gordon as the Newcastle winger wants to move to London over any other city.

Rafael Leao warning
Man Utd have been told AC Milan winger Rafael Leao has the potential to win the Ballon d’Or, but the Old Trafford side have equally been sent a warning about the Portugal international star.
Leao is one of a number of wide players that the Red Devils have been linked with ahead of the summer transfer window.
According to former Blues star Marcel Desailly, it would be wrong to write Leao off, but any club that signs him will have to accept a frustrating level of consistency as well as a significant defensive deficiency.
“You can’t criticise him, because the day you criticise him, he will produce magic on the pitch. And you are stuck and you don’t know what to say anymore. In five seconds, he will crash out all the negativity you put on him,” Desailly told the Italian Football Podcast.
“But we know 100% that he doesn’t have the consistency. And he isn’t on his own a leader for a full season like Messi was, and Neymar was.
“He doesn’t have that consistency. He is an important player for the team, but he can never be the main man throughout the season. He can be the main man once in a while. Because he will be on and off.”
