An assistant football coach at Arizona State University has tragically died at the age of 29.
Steven Miller died on Wednesday night, the school announced, and the Sun Devils quickly moved to cancel their spring practice.
Miller, a strength and conditioning coach, had been dealing with medical problems in the days before his death. A cause has not been announced.
According to reports, Miller suffered a medical incident after practice on April 7. He returned to the practice field just a week later.
After impressing at local school Gilbert High, Miller played on the offensive line for Arizona State from 2015 to 2019 under coaches Todd Graham and Herm Edwards.
‘The Sun Devil Football family mourns the passing of Steven Miller,’ the school said in a post on X. ‘We extend our thoughts to those who knew and loved him.’
Sun Devils head coach Kenny Dillingham added: ‘Praying for everyone who knew Steve. He had a joy for people that was unmatched and impacted so many lives. We lost a good one.’
