Family members paid their respects to Scarlett Faulkner at her funeral today, which was held in Ireland just a few weeks after the mum was attacked in a shock assault
A 29-year-old mum who died in a shock roadside assault was remembered as a woman with a “heart like no other” as she was laid to rest today.
Heartbroken family members of Scarlett Faulkner attended her funeral today, three weeks after she sustained serious head injuries in an attack near Birdhill, a village in County Tipperary, Ireland. Her family, who were keeping bedside vigil, confirmed she passed away on Monday evening after she was kept on life support at Cork University Hospital for weeks.
Heartfelt tributes were delivered this afternoon at the funeral at St Munchin’s parish in Limerick, from where the mum hailed, with her sister remembering Scarlett as a mum with a “heart like no other”.

The Irish Mirror reports that Victoria Faulkner provided a moving eulogy at today’s funeral, remembering the positive influence Scarlett had on her loved one’s lives. Delivering the speech to the packed church, the sibling said she would “cherish every memory we ever shared together”.
She said: “You were a character. You always made us laugh no matter what mood we might have been in. You made our bad days better. We will miss your beautiful smile and loving personality.
“You had a heart like no other. The love you showed us, we will never forget.” The sister went on to promise there would be “justice” for Scarlett, while continuing to remark on how much her mother, father and daughter loved her. She added: “We promise you sister, we will get the justice you deserve.”
“You were Daddy’s girl and Mommy’s world, we will love you forever, our sleeping beauty, from your ten sisters and five brothers, and most importantly you’re beautiful daughter Oceanna, who you loved dearly, the same way she loved you.
“You have left a big hole in each and everyone of our hearts but you also touched the hearts of many others in this world. You were a good mother, daughter, sister, sister-in-law, friend to us all, you have left us with a beautiful little girl, ‘Oceanna’ – a gift from god, who reminds us of you so much.”
Two people – a teenage girl and a woman in her 40s – appeared in court charged in connection with the attack on Scarlett a week after she was assaulted.
Parish priest Canon Donal McNamara, St Munchin’s parish, told people gathered at the funeral mass today that they should focus on “forgiveness” following the mum’s death. He said: “Forgiveness does not mean denying pain or excusing wrongdoing. Forgiveness is a journey, a long difficult, challenging path that leads away from being consumed by anger and towards the freedom that god desires for each one of you.
“In moments like this, families can be torn apart or slowly healed. The choice is not easy. But, if you allow the path to (peace) to work within you, even the deepest wounds can be healed, little by little.” Scarlett will be laid to rest in Ballycannon cemetery in Meelick.
