Shehu Abdullahi, a former Super Eagles defender, is planning to join the race for a seat in Nigeria’s Green Chamber — the House of Representatives — ahead of the 2027 general elections, Completesports.com reports.
Ex- Super Eagles Defender’s Career Spanning Youth To Senior Levels
Abdullahi, 33, represented Nigeria at U-17, U-20, U-23 and senior levels. He played 37 times for the Super Eagles from 2014 to 2019. He also played for several clubs in Europe, including Anorthosis Famagusta FC, Bursaspor, AC Omonia and Levski Sofia, before returning to his boyhood club, Kano Pillars, in 2024.

After completing the season with the Sai Masu Gida side, Abdullahi was called home by the Sokoto State Government, where he was appointed Special Assistant to the Commissioner for Sports on Youth Mobilisation.
Abdullahi’s Political Ambition Takes Centre Stage
Now, Abdullahi has ventured into politics, aligning with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as his platform.
His former Kano Pillars teammate, Ahmed Garba ‘Yaro Yaro’, exclusively told Completesports.com that Abdullahi has brought his football career to an end to focus fully on politics.
“Shehu Abdullahi is no longer with Kano Pillars. He has also stopped playing football and has joined politics,” Yaro Yaro said when Completesports.com spoke with him on Thursday afternoon.
“He has returned to Sokoto State and is now set to contest for the House of Representatives seat for Sokoto North/Sokoto South Federal Constituency,” he added.
Path To History For Abdullahi
If he goes on to win election into the House of Representatives in the 2027 general elections, Shehu Abdullahi could become one of the few Nigerian footballers to successfully transition into politics through the ballot.
