Results did not go Tottenham’s way in the way they hopes and the new manager bounce effect did not happen either at the Stadium of Light as the club’s relegation odds tumble further
Tottenham’s chances of relegation drew closer after this weekend’s Premier League action after suffering a loss at Sunderland as well as club’s around them getting results they desperately need with Roberto De Zerbi’s side now sitting two points from safety. The reigning Europa League champions now have six matches to turn that around but this has not stopped the bookies cutting their odds in the relegation market.
Bookies William Hill have now cut Tottenham’s odds of relegation from 6/4 going into the weekend to now Evens (1/1) after Roberto De Zerbi’s debut did not go as well as many would have hoped. Nordi Mukiele’s goal was the difference for Sunderland to keep all three points as Spurs make the long journey back home from the north-west at the weekend desperately searching for points.
The defeat has now extended Spurs’ winless run to 14 matches including seven defeats in their last eight league outings leaving De Zerbi needing points from two relegation candidates and four European-chasing teams – including his former employers this weekend. The Italian manager will welcome Brighton & Hove Albion on his home debut as he looks to get one over his former side who he helped guide to their first ever European campaign.
The pressure is mounting on Tottenham to deliver this after finishing last season in 17th place but with a European trophy under Ange Postecoglou, they have failed to improve on their domestic form this season with Thomas Frank and Igor Tudor failing to bring any winning momentum to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
West Ham sit just above Spurs after thrashing Wolves 4-0 on Friday night and have seen their odds drift from Evens going into the weekend to now 7/4 but have matches against the likes of Everton, Brentford and Arsenal to contend with before a potential end-of-season decider at home against Leeds United who are now 10/1 after a huge win at Old Trafford last night.
