LASU Queens to Represent Africa at the 2025 FISU University World Championship in China

Lagos State University The LASU women’s football team, commonly known as the LASU Queens, will fly the African flag at the 2025 FISU University World Championship in Dalian, China.

The prestigious tournament begins on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, and runs until September 28, 2025 Sunday.

As African champions, the LASU Queens will compete in the women’s football tournament, which will feature eight top university teams from around the world.

The draw places LASU in Group A alongside Shanghai Institute of Physical Education (China), the University of Santa Catarina (Brazil), and the University of Valencia (Spain).

Group B includes Beijing Normal University (China), the University of Sydney (Australia), Polytechnic Université de Haute-France (France), and Université Rouge et d’Or Laval (Canada).

The top two teams from each group advance to the semifinals, with the winner advancing to the finals.

Before departing, the LSU Queens team held their final practice on Saturday, September 13th, at the Sports Center on the LSU main campus in Ojo City.

The practice focused primarily on tactical drills and penalty shootouts, fully preparing the team for their departure to China on September 14th Sunday.

Assistant Captain Busayo Kushoro expressed optimism about the team’s chances of winning the championship, emphasizing the team’s unity, hard work, and determination. “We are excited to fly the LSU flag and represent Africa.” “The training wasn’t easy, but we tried our best,” said the senior marketing major. Kushoro added that the team is not intimidated by their opponents and is ready for every match. She urged the Lagos State University community and Nigerian football fans to continue supporting the team, stressing that the Queen’s team had studied their opponents and was confident they could pull off an upset victory. Lagos State University secured its qualification for the 2024 All-Africa University Games by defeating its opponents in the finals held at the Lagos State University Sports Complex.
