Jurgen Klopp could replace Ancelotti at Real Madrid

Jurgen Klopp is reportedly willing to become the next Real Madrid head coach, with current head coach Carlo Ancelotti expected to leave the club before the end of the season.

Klopp left Liverpool last season after nine successful years and is currently working as Red Bull’s global head of football. However, a report from UOL Esporte claims the German is “unhappy” with his position and could return to head coaching as early as July. Ancelotti will step down after Real Madrid’s Copa del Rey final against Barcelona on April 26.

Sky Sports also reported that he may not coach the final five La Liga games. After Real Madrid were knocked out of the Champions League by Arsenal (5-1 on aggregate), Ancelotti admitted:

“Maybe the club decides to replace me… maybe tomorrow, in 10 days, in a month, or even in a year.”
Klopp has been admired by Real Madrid president Florentino Perez for years. The club is now reportedly ready to make a strong move to sign him. Klopp also reportedly has a clause in place that would allow him to leave Red Bull if he is called up by the German national team.

According to bookmakers, Xabi Alonso is currently the favourite to succeed Ancelotti. Klopp is third in the betting odds at [1.5].

During his time at Liverpool, Klopp has won the Premier League, UEFA Champions League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup.

If he does join Real Madrid, he could be reunited with Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is reportedly close to agreeing personal terms with the Spanish club.
