Victor Osimhen may be appointed as co-captain of Super Eagles

According to the latest reports from the Super Eagles camp, there is a strong move to appoint Victor Osimhen as one of the co-captains of the Super Eagles.

William Troost-Ekong is now the main captain of the team under new coach Eric Chelle. Ekong has worn the captain’s armband with long-time captain Ahmed Musa holding the record for the most appearances.

Moses Simon, who plays for Nantes Football Club, has become the co-captain due to his experience in the team. Kenneth Omeruo is also one of the co-captains but has not played since the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations due to injuries and limited playing time at the Turkish club.

Osimhen made his debut for Nigeria in June 2017 and is now one of the most experienced players. He has shown leadership qualities since Eric Chelle became the head coach of the team.

Osimhen was one of the first players to arrive during the Rwanda training camp. After speaking to him recently, he warned his teammates that the demands of the new coach will be “very, very high”.

A team official told SCORENigeria: “The new coach relies a lot on Osimhen because he believes he can help the other players stay focused and together.

There is a strong bond between the coach and Osimhen. They are both fighters.”

Even without an official title, Osimhen has emerged as one of the leaders of the team. He has established himself in the dressing room, has a good relationship with NFF officials and remains resolute in his determination to play for Nigeria.
