Paige Bueckers reveals she broke up with Azzi Fudd BEFORE WNBA Draft made them teammates again

WNBA superstars Paige Bueckers and Azzi Fudd have revealed they have split up and were actually not together when they awkwardly became teammates earlier this year.

The pair played together at UConn from 2021 to 2025 and went public with their romance in 2025, the same year Bueckers was drafted by the Dallas Wings with the No. 1 overall pick.

However, Bueckers and Fudd had long refrained from addressing their relationship and were quick to shut down questions about it when Fudd was taken by the Wings with the No. 1 pick in this year’s draft.

But on Friday, Bueckers appeared on Fudd’s podcast and the duo announced they are no longer dating.

‘Paige and I have something that we want to share with everyone. We are no longer together,’ Fudd said, laughing.

‘We’re not together anymore. It’s been, for everybody wondering, like over a year,’ Bueckers added.

‘Everybody’s going to be like “oh my gosh they’re teammates, how is this gonna work?” We were not together before she got drafted so all of those narratives can go to bed,’ Bueckers added.

‘We’re still friends, we’re still cool. We played an entire season together. We’re the utmost professional, we care about basketball.

‘There’s been some crazy things said about us. Sometimes in life there’s just seasons and sometimes in life two people are just at different points of their life. We still support each other, we’re still gonna be great friends, we’re still gonna be great teammates, we’re gonna be professionals.

‘We are still going to have other friends, we will eventually move on. I know we will continue to be outside and be lit and have a good time, so we should not get punished for that as well.’

‘And also we don’t need messages on what the other person is doing,’ Fudd added, while laughing.

Bueckers and Fudd were teammates at UConn for multiple seasons and have known each other for years. Together, they were key contributors on a team that won the 2025 national championship in a demolition of South Carolina.

Back in April, there were a series of bizarre press conferences when Fudd was drafted to the same team as her supposed girlfriend.

Team officials shut down questions for Fudd, while Bueckers also refused to talk about their romance at her first press conference of the season.

‘There is something that I wanted to address and I only plan on addressing it once,’ Bueckers told journalists back in April.

‘So if we continue to get asked about it, we will refer to this moment in time or we will use this time to deflect and talk about our teammates.

‘Quite frankly, I believe me and Azzi’s personal relationship is nobody’s business but our own. But – and what we choose to share is completely up to us.

‘But as media members, I understand you guys have a job to do. And you guys have to ask questions about the basketball aspect of it. So that’s what I will be addressing today.

‘Me and Azzi have always been the most professional. We’ve always conducted ourselves as such, and we’ve never let anything that happens off the court carry onto the court. And that’s what we continue to do.

‘And I’m not entirely sure if this is new to media members, to social media, to new people who are watching the WNBA or women’s basketball in general. But me and Azzi are not new to this. We’ve been doing this for a long time. We have countless reps at it.

‘We have a lot of experience with it, so we will continue to use that experience to show up and be professionals, great teammates, great leaders, great leaders, the hardest workers, and continue to show up and do our job and help the Dallas Wings win basketball games.

‘To add on to that, Azzi Fudd was the number one draft pick because she earned it, and it had nothing to do with me and everything to do with who she is as a human being, who she is as a basketball player, her resilience, her strength, and her career best year at UConn.

‘So Azzi is… her own great individual person, and she should be celebrated as such. And now that we got that out of the way, I would love to talk basketball.’

In their first season as Wings teammates, Dallas finished with a 27-17 record and then got dumped out of the playoffs by the eventual champions, the Golden State Valkyries, in the first round.
