From Ogijo Palace to Ogun State Leadership: Late Monarch’s Daughter, Chief Mrs Adepeju Arowojobe-Oyebola, Rises to Statewide Financial Secretary in Historic Appointment

It is a remarkable moment of pride, recognition and celebration for the people of Ogijo Kingdom in Ogun State as Chief Mrs Adepeju Arowojobe-Oyebola, daughter of the late traditional ruler, Oba Suberu Abiodun Oyebola, has been appointed Financial Secretary of the Market Women and Men Association of Ogun State (MAWOMAS), marking another significant milestone in her leadership journey.

The appointment, confirmed in a certificate issued by the association from Ake Palace, Abeokuta, covers a four-year tenure from 2026 to 2030 and represents an elevation in responsibility for the respected market leader, who has previously served as Iyaloja of Ogijo Kingdom and Treasurer in the Remo market leadership structure.

For Chief Mrs Arowojobe-Oyebola, the development represents a transition from community-level leadership to a position involving the wider interests of market women and men across Ogun State.

Her emergence as Financial Secretary is particularly significant given the important role of traders and market associations in sustaining local commerce, supporting families and strengthening grassroots economic activities.

The appointment also adds another chapter to the legacy of her late father, Oba Suberu Abiodun Oyebola, whose traditional leadership forms an important part of the family’s history in Ogijo Kingdom.

While her royal background remains a source of pride, her progression through the market leadership structure reflects the responsibilities she has undertaken, from representing traders in Ogijo to handling treasury-related duties in Remo.

As Financial Secretary, she will be expected to contribute to the association’s financial administration, accountability and organisational development during her four-year tenure.

The importance of MAWOMAS within Ogun State’s economic landscape has been recognised over the years, with the association serving as a platform for market leaders to engage government officials on traders’ welfare, business development and economic opportunities.

In 2021, the Ogun State Government publicly acknowledged the contribution of market women and men to the state’s socioeconomic development during the inauguration of the association’s leadership.

More recently, leadership appointments within the association have highlighted efforts to strengthen representation, cooperation and unity among traders across different parts of the state.

Against this background, Chief Mrs Arowojobe-Oyebola’s appointment places her among those entrusted with helping to sustain the association’s administrative and financial responsibilities.

Her journey from Iyaloja of Ogijo Kingdom to Treasurer in Remo and now Financial Secretary at the Ogun State level offers an inspiring example of leadership progression and the expanding responsibilities of women in grassroots economic organisations.

For Ogijo Kingdom, the appointment is a moment of celebration; for Chief Mrs Adepeju Arowojobe-Oyebola, it is the beginning of another chapter of service, carrying her family’s royal heritage and her years of market leadership experience into a statewide responsibility.
