‘I Want to Make History for Nigeria and Myself’ — Flamingos Coach Hakeem Busari Reveals Personal Ambition Ahead of Brazil World Cup Semi-Final

Flamingos head coach Hakeem Busari has declared his determination to make history for Nigeria and establish his reputation on the international stage as his team prepares for a crucial semi-final showdown against Brazil at the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco, Sports247.ng reports.

Speaking ahead of the highly anticipated encounter, Busari revealed that his ambitions extend beyond guiding Nigeria to the final, admitting that success at the tournament could open new opportunities in his coaching career.

“For me, I want to make a name, I want to make a mark for Nigeria and equally for myself,” Busari declared.

The Nigerian tactician, whose side secured qualification for the semi-finals following a dramatic 1-0 victory over Venezuela, stressed that his players remain motivated to achieve something special despite the increasing pressure.

Busari explained that managing the emotions of young footballers is particularly important at this stage of the competition, warning against placing unnecessary expectations on the players.

“Because they are kids, we don’t put them under tense anxiety. The tension and pressure should not be at this level,” he explained.

The coach emphasised that his instructions have focused on encouraging calmness, concentration and tactical discipline rather than allowing the occasion to overwhelm the youngsters.

“Take the game calm, concentrate, take your chances. When we are not with the ball, let’s fight for the ball,” he stated.

“If you’re with the ball, let’s play. Let’s keep the possession high and let’s take our chances.”

Busari also acknowledged that coaching at the international level comes with considerable expectations, with performances capable of shaping future career opportunities.

“As a coach, whatever you do, a lot of people are looking at you. Nevertheless, you don’t know where your career will take you,” he added.

Having guided Nigeria to four consecutive victories after their opening defeat to Poland, Busari believes the Flamingos have demonstrated significant growth throughout the competition.

With Brazil standing between Nigeria and a historic first-ever World Cup final appearance, the coach remains determined to maintain his team’s momentum.

For Busari, the mission is clear: make history, inspire the nation and prove that Nigeria’s young footballers belong among the world’s best.
