Manchester United Women rescued a point against Manchester City with a dramatic late equaliser from Elisabeth Terland in a 1-1 draw in the Women’s Super League.
City appeared to be heading for another victory after Khadija “Bunny” Shaw opened the scoring in the 66th minute. The striker marked her 100th WSL appearance with a well-taken goal that put the visitors in control of the Manchester derby.
United continued to push for a response, refusing to let the deficit end their hopes of securing a result against their local rivals. Their persistence paid off in the 89th minute when Terland found the net to bring the hosts level and spark celebrations.
The late goal ensured Manchester United extended their unbeaten run to eight matches, while Manchester City dropped points for the first time in the league this season. The result also allowed Chelsea to move above City on goal difference after beating Crystal Palace 3-1.
The draw gives United a valuable boost as they continue their campaign, while City will be disappointed to have surrendered their lead so late in a match that appeared to be within their control.
