Oregon Ducks wide receiver Evan Stewart has been arrested for allegedly driving under the influence of intoxicants (DUII) near the school’s Eugene campus.
Springfield, Oregon police released a statement Sunday saying officers conducted a stop around 5am that morning. When officers suspected driver impairment, they initiated a DUI investigation and ultimately obtained probable cause to arrest Stewart for DUII, according to the police statement.
Stewart was transported to the Springfield Municipal Jail and booked. He was released an hour later to a third party, Ducks wideout Dakorien Moore, according to KATU. The Ducks beat the Nebraska Cornhuskers hours before Stewart’s arrest, although he was out with an undisclosed injury.
Ducks coach Dan Lanning has since addressed Stewart’s arrest.
‘There was an incident this weekend that didn’t match our standard here in our program,’ Lanning said. ‘There will be an appropriate action taken. Still gathering some details with what that situation looks like. But that would be handled internally. I’m not gonna respond to any other questions about that. We’re gonna handle that with our guys.
‘There’s an expectation of what you have to… how you have to act, and how you need to perform in our program. Kind of overshadows the success that we had on Saturday, which is disappointing, but that will be handled by us internally. I’m not going to speak on it publicly.’

In what is believed to be a separate incident that morning, Springfield police pursued speeding vehicles in the same area where Stewart was arrested. Ultimately that pursuit was terminated, but the investigation is ongoing, according to police.
Stewart is not being linked to that incident, but the possibility of other Ducks players being involved was addressed during Lanning’s press conference.
Asked if his players were the suspected speeders, the 40-year-old head coach did not offer a direct response, but rather explained that his earlier comments referred to both Stewart and the speeding allegations.
‘I was talking about the same thing when I first addressed it,’ Lanning said.
Stewart’s arrest is the second DUII charge for Oregon football in the last few months after running back coach Ra’Shaad Samples was booked back in August. Samples has pleaded not guilty in the case.
A four-star recruit out of Frisco, Texas, Stewart initially attended Texas A&M before transferring to Oregon in 2024. The redshirt senior has 27 catches for 352 yards and four touchdowns this year. He missed Saturday’s 17-14 win over Nebraska after being ruled out due to an undisclosed injury.
