LASU Epe League Player of the Season,Taiwo Adeagbo, has revealed how his team fought their way from second-to-last on the league table to becoming champions, with a dramatic two-goal performance against Tigers proving crucial to their title ambitions.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Sports247, the 200-level Agriculture student recalled how a difficult campaign gradually transformed into a remarkable championship-winning season.
According to Taiwo, his team’s position near the bottom of the table initially presented a major challenge, but improved performances and growing confidence helped them climb into first place.
One particular encounter against Tigers, however, stood out.
With his team trailing by a goal, Teekay scored the equaliser before striking again late in the game to secure a crucial victory.
The result kept their championship hopes alive heading into the final match of the season.
Although he eventually emerged as the league’s standout player,Taiwo insisted that winning the championship meant more than receiving individual recognition.
“Honestly, becoming a league champion means more to me because football is a team sport, and winning the league was something we all worked towards together,” he said.
The forward also revealed that his growing reputation brought additional challenges as opposing teams began paying closer attention to his movements.
With defenders limiting his space, he had to adjust his approach and improve his decision-making to remain effective.
Beyond the dramatic victories,Taiwo credited his development to consistency, discipline and the support of his teammates and coaches.
He admitted that the season was not without setbacks, but maintained that learning to manage pressure helped him become a more mature player.
Despite finishing the campaign with both team and individual honours, the youngster is already looking beyond his achievements.
“I don’t want them to be the peak of my journey,” he said, expressing his determination to improve and compete against stronger opposition.
For Taiwo, the season represented more than a collection of goals and awards.
It was proof that a team struggling near the bottom could recover, challenge expectations and eventually become champions.
