Roberto de Zerbi and his Tottenham squad will fly to Spain for an “unusual” training camp after Saturday’s game with Manchester United.

The North London club are rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table after five games. They have yet to win and only scored their first goals of this nascent season in their 3-2 loss to Aston Villa ahead of the extended international break.

They will face Man Utd at Old Trafford later today in what is a must-win clash for both sides. The Red Devils themselves have endured a tricky start to the campaign, winning only once.

A Tottenham victory would see them go level on points with the Manchester club and ease some of the concerns over De Zerbi’s project, which has yet to really get off the ground. Regardless of the outcome of the match, the Italian is already thinking ahead.

Despite the prolonged break in play, De Zerbi seems to be worried that his players haven’t yet really had time to gel. Many of Tottenham’s new signings only joined in the final week of the transfer window, and numerous stars then went away on international duty.

Tottenham schedule training camp

As Spurs have no European football this season, they will have a nine-day break between the clash with Man Utd and their subsequent Premier League fixture at home to Coventry.

The BBC reports that Tottenham will use this period for a warm-weather training camp in Spain. The team will jet off to Marbella after their Old Trafford fixture in order to build chemistry and get away from the English weather.

The report notes that temperatures in Marbella are forecast to reach 25 degrees, while rain is predicted for Enfield. It is added that it is “unusual” for Premier League clubs to hold training camps this early in the season, particularly right after an international break.

However, oddly timed getaways actually aren’t that uncommon for De Zerbi. In April 2025, the Italian took his Marseille team on a “sporting retreat” to Rome in order to arrest a form slump. At the time, this was described as an “unprecedented” move.

Famously, OM had to rearrange their travel plans following the death of Pope Francis. Increased air traffic in Italy meant that they decided to cut their stint short by a day.

The training camp had the desired effect, though. Marseille ended the 2024/25 season with a four-game unbeaten run that included three high-scoring wins. As a result, they confirmed their place in the Champions League and finished runners-up to PSG.

De Zerbi is hoping that Spurs’ sojourn to Spain will have a similarly positive result.
