Iganmu Tiger goalkeeper Lekan Alao has strengthened his reputation as one of the emerging goalkeeping talents in The Creative Championship (TCC), following another commanding performance that earned him the Matchday 4 Man of the Match award in his side’s hard-fought 1-1 draw against Imperial FC.
Facing an Imperial side that had enjoyed a perfect start to the 2026/27 campaign, Alao rose to the occasion with crucial interventions, ensuring the Tigers remained competitive despite sustained pressure from their opponents.
The encounter saw the shot-stopper demonstrate his sharp reflexes as early as the 15th minute, producing an important save from a dangerous free-kick.
Although Thompson Sabastine eventually handed Imperial the advantage in the 24th minute, Alao remained resolute, pulling off another impressive stop before half-time to prevent the hosts from extending their lead.
His determination proved valuable when Joseph Chuks restored parity in the 59th minute, securing a precious point for Iganmu Tiger.
Reflecting the fighting spirit behind his performance, Alao’s proposed reaction reads:
“Every time I step onto the pitch, I tell myself that I won’t let my team go down without a fight. As a goalkeeper, you must remain focused even when things are difficult. I’m happy my saves helped us get a point, but my biggest ambition is to keep improving and help Iganmu achieve more this season.”
The recognition marks another significant moment for Alao, who also claimed the Man of the Match award against Atlantic Business on Matchday 3, completing an impressive run of back-to-back individual honours.
His consistency highlights the opportunities The Creative Championship provides for promising Nigerian footballers to demonstrate their abilities, gain competitive experience and attract wider attention through outstanding performances.
For Iganmu Tiger, Alao’s reliability offers renewed confidence as the club seeks to build momentum in the campaign.
And with two consecutive Man of the Match awards already to his name, Lekan Alao is proving that while goals often dominate the headlines, exceptional goalkeeping can be just as decisive.
