Alejandro Garnacho has taken new steps to save his career in the Premier League, with the loanee desperate to impress Unai Emery after a slow start at Aston Villa.
Garnacho joined Villa on loan from Chelsea during the summer, with the deal set to become permanent for around €45 million if certain conditions are met, thought to be based on appearances.
However, the 22-year-old has only played 32 minutes for Villa so far this season and has been an unused substitute in the club’s last four matches before the international break.
Having seen his career stall since leaving Manchester United in 2025, Garnacho is anxious to avoid a further decline by failing to impress at Villa and The Telegraph report that he has undergone a ‘mini pre-season’ during the international break in order to build his fitness.
Garnacho spent most of the three-week break in close contact with Emery by holding several one-on-one meetings with the head coach and being put through individual tactical sessions to get the winger up to speed with his manager’s methods.
Villa are said to believe that Garnacho has made clear progress over the last fortnight after working on a personal fitness programme and scoring in friendly wins over Southampton and Sevilla during the break.
Alejandro Garnacho: Aston Villa star facing familiar Emery treatment to save career
Garnacho was once considered a standout wonderkid in world football but the Argentine star had a disappointing campaign at Chelsea last season, prompting the Blues to move him on just one year after signing him for €46.2m.
Concerns over Garnacho’s professionalism and attitude have followed him throughout his career, first at Manchester United before similar issues were raised at Chelsea and the youngster is keen to avoid a third successive sour ending with Villa.
However, Emery is believed to be confident in Garnacho’s ability to rediscover his best form at Villa, having previously led former stars Youri Tielemans and Morgan Rogers through similar programmes before they became established first team players at the club.
With Garnacho’s loan thought to have ‘easily reachable’ conditions to become permanent, all parties are determined to ensure the deal becomes a success there is optimism that the forward can thrive at Villa.
