The AfriSportPro Youth League is being played across ten states of the federation, providing a platform for youth teams and grassroots clubs to develop players and gain more visibility.

Ahead of the opening games in Akwa Ibom, Conference Chairman and CEO of the AfriSportPro Youth League, Chukwuebuka Ugwu, thanked everyone who contributed to the start of the competition, including the Akwa Ibom State Football Association.

Ugwu also reminded participating clubs about the league’s philosophy, stressing that the teams are the most important stakeholders in the competition.

He said the league was created to provide academy and grassroots club owners with a structured competition where young players can develop, gain visibility and attract scouting opportunities.

Ugwu urged all clubs to follow the league’s rules and regulations and maintain discipline among players, coaches and club officials.

He also called on clubs to use the proper channels when raising complaints, particularly issues involving match officials.

Punctuality was another issue highlighted by the league chairman, with clubs expected to arrive at match venues one hour before their scheduled kick-off time.

The AfriSportPro Youth League has also warned that lateness will attract fines, while only a 15-minute grace period will be allowed in cases of serious lateness after the scheduled kick-off time.

The opening matches in Akwa Ibom will officially start the 2026/27 campaign as the 12 participating teams begin their fight for points and the conference title.
