Jannik Sinner will miss the Shanghai Masters, meaning the world No. 1 will have to wait even longer for his return to competitive tennis.
Sinner confirmed the withdrawal today, saying he had hoped to play at the tournament but would not be able to make it. His last competitive match remains the Wimbledon final in July, where he defeated Alexander Zverev to retain his title.
The Italian has been dealing with a right knee injury that has kept him out since Wimbledon. He also missed the US Open and the China Open as he continued his recovery.
Sinner shared the message with fans on social media, writing:
“Unfortunately, I won’t be able to play the Rolex Shanghai Masters this year as I had hoped. I always enjoy playing in front of the Shanghai fans and I’m very sorry that I won’t be able to do so next week. Thank you for all your support. I’m looking forward to seeing you again next year!”
The withdrawal is another setback for Sinner, who had hoped to return during the Asian swing. He had already pulled out of the China Open last week because his knee was not yet ready for competition.
For now, there is no confirmed date for Sinner’s return. The focus remains on getting his knee right before he steps back onto the court.
And for us fans who were hoping to see the five-time Grand Slam champion back in action in Shanghai, this means wait continues.
