Chad has entered into a landmark multi-year consultancy agreement with LALIGA aimed at transforming and professionalising football in the Central African country, with a major focus on talent development, training and institutional strengthening.
The agreement between LALIGA and Chad’s Ministry of Youth and Sports was formalised at the Spanish league’s headquarters in Madrid during a visit by Sports Minister Naïr Abakar and a Chadian delegation.
Under the partnership, LALIGA will bring its football expertise and methodology to support Chad in building sustainable structures while working alongside local institutions and professionals.
The first phase will include a nationwide talent identification campaign and the establishment of a system to monitor the progress of promising players.
LALIGA will also provide technical support for the design and structure of Chad’s planned National Football Academy, while coaches, administrators and sports executives will receive specialised training.
The partnership will further include a strategic assessment of Chad’s domestic league, with recommendations and a roadmap expected to guide its development and professionalisation.
Abakar said the initiative is intended to provide young Chadian players with better opportunities to develop while strengthening clubs and improving the competitiveness of the domestic league.
“Our ambition for Chadian football is to offer our young players the right environment to develop, enable our clubs to grow and make our league more competitive,” he said.
LALIGA President Javier Tebas said the organisation would share its knowledge and methodology while adapting the project to the specific needs of Chadian football.
Subsequent phases are expected to focus on the operational development of the National Academy, continued identification and monitoring of players, and implementation of reforms for clubs and domestic competitions.
LALIGA described the initiative as an unprecedented collaboration of its kind for the organisation in sub-Saharan Africa.
The Spanish league says it has delivered more than 1,000 sports development projects across 60 countries since 2015.
