Liverpool want to sign a midfielder in future transfer windows with Lamine Camara among their targets, according to BBC Sport.
The Reds were believed to be monitoring Camara in the summer transfer window, with the Senegal international valued at €55million (£47.1m).
Camara came close to joining Premier League counterparts Chelsea on deadline day in September, only for Monaco to abort the proposed transfer late on.
And BBC Sport understands Liverpool remain sweet on the 22-year-old following the collapse of that move to Stamford Bridge.
Camara is viewed as an alternative signing to Bournemouth star Alex Scott – another midfielder who features prominently in Liverpool’s thinking.
Scott previously worked with Liverpool head coach Andoni Iraola at Bournemouth, with the pair believed to have a good relationship.
The 23-year-old midfielder is regarded as one of the best young players in the Premier League having sparkled for the Cherries in recent seasons.
Scott enhanced his burgeoning reputation by making his senior England debut in the 2-0 win over Czechia in the Nations League on Tuesday.
However, Liverpool reportedly face stiff competition from Chelsea for Scott, who will not be allowed to leave Bournemouth in January.
The Blues remain firm admirers of Scott despite having a €74.8m (£64m) offer rejected by the south-coast club in July. The Athletic says he is valued at around €117m (£100m).
Scott ‘pushed to leave’ Bournemouth in the summer
BBC Sport claims Scott “pushed to leave” Bournemouth in the summer by turning down two offers to sign a contract extension.
The former Bristol City man has less than two years to run on his current terms and harbours the ambition of playing for an elite club.
Scott will hope to earn more senior minutes for England when they travel to Croatia in the Nations League on Saturday evening.
The Three Lions will then entertain Czechia at Wembley Stadium next Tuesday (6 October) before the international break concludes.
Camara meanwhile has helped Senegal make an unbeaten start to their qualification campaign for the next Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) during the international break.
He played the full 90 minutes as Patrick Vieira’s side drew 1-1 with Mozambique last Friday before beating Ethiopia 1-0 four days later.
