The Gymnastics Federation of Nigeria (GFN) has appointed Kuti Oluwadamilare Ismail to lead its media department, handing the sports journalist responsibility for strengthening the visibility and public profile of gymnastics across the country.
The appointment was confirmed in a letter dated September 27, 2026, following a meeting of the federation’s executive board where members unanimously approved Kuti’s selection.
According to the GFN, the decision was based on his track record, dedication and contribution to the development and promotion of sports in Nigeria.
The appointment letter, signed by GFN President Prince Kelvin Erhunwunse, congratulated Kuti and expressed confidence that the new responsibility would further encourage him in his contribution to Nigerian sport.
Kuti, who joins the federation’s board with responsibility for media, has pledged to use the position to increase awareness of gymnastics and provide greater exposure for athletes, coaches and competitions.
“I promise to discharge my duties and promote gymnastics, just as I have always promoted other sports in Nigeria,” Kuti said following confirmation of his appointment.
For the new media chief, the responsibility goes beyond simply publicising federation activities. He believes effective storytelling can help introduce gymnastics to a wider Nigerian audience while drawing attention to athletes and officials working behind the scenes to develop the sport.
“I am grateful for the confidence placed in me,” he said. “I look forward to working with the board to tell the stories of our athletes and help more Nigerians connect with gymnastics.”
The appointment comes as Nigeria continues efforts to broaden the development and visibility of sports outside the country’s traditionally dominant disciplines.
For gymnastics, increased media exposure could prove important in attracting young participants, sponsors and wider public interest while providing established athletes with a stronger platform.
Kuti now faces the task of translating that ambition into greater visibility for the federation.
And his first message in the new role makes the objective clear: Nigeria’s gymnasts have stories worth telling — and he intends to make sure more Nigerians hear them.
