Ex-international winger, Mohammed Oladimeji Lawal has taken a swipe at the Super Eagles for what he referred to as their lack of creativity in Tuesday’s 3-0 loss away to Guinea-Bissau in their second match of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, Sports247 reports.

Lawal, who shot into limelight in the silver-winning Golden Eaglets’ squad of Canada 1987 FIFA U-17 World Cup and played for Real Madrid B of Spain at the height of his career, lamented that the Eagles could not create any goal scoring opportunity.
Goals from Franculino Dju, Mama Balde and Alvaro Djalo saw The Wild Dogs pull off a most unlikely result at 24 September Stadium in Bissau, much to the dismay of Lawal, as the defeat left Nigeria three points behind their hosts after two matches.
However, the former fleet-footed winger, who also played for Femo Scorpions of Eruwa, Julius Berger of Lagos, Shooting Stars of Ibadan, KV Kortrijk of Belgium and Hellenic of South Africa, expresed confidence in a revival for the Eagles.
“I really feel disappointed with this result. I expected the team to take the game straight to their hosts, but we allowed them to dominate. We created very few chances to threaten their goalkeeper, but that is not the end of the world.
“There are still many matches to play in the group. So, I am still optimistic that the Super Eagles will top the group,” opined Lawal, who scored on his senior debut during an AFCON qualifier against Togo in 1990.
Sports247 reports further that Tuesday’s game brought back memories of the last time the Eagles conceded three goals against an African side – 12 years ago, on September 6, 2014 – when they lost 3-2 at home to Congo in an AFCON 2015 qualifier, and subsequently failed to qualify.
