Liverpool reportedly remain in talks with Aurelien Tchouameni’s representatives despite his recent contract extension at Real Madrid.
The France international was widely tipped to secure an Anfield switch before his €80 million move to Los Blancos in 2022 and the Reds have now rekindled their interest in his signature amid their pursuit of a new defensive midfielder.
The long-term future of Alexis Mac Allister, 27, is currently in doubt and Liverpool are eager to bolster their options in the middle of the park next year, with AS Monaco star Lamine Camara regarded as one of their top targets.
Tchouameni is also on their radar and the Liverpool hierarchy spoke to Real Madrid about a possible deal over the summer, as per a shock report from TEAMtalk. Manchester United were also linked with a move for the France international, but he signed a contract extension at the Bernabeu instead, with his new deal now running until 2031.
Despite this, Liverpool reportedly remain in conversation with his camp and while they are not yet actively pursuing a deal, Tchouameni is firmly on their radar as they look to strengthen their midfield options following the sale of Curtis Jones to Inter Milan during the summer window.
Tchouameni, meanwhile, is happy at Real Madrid and he is keen to remain at the club for the foreseeable future. However, his stance will reportedly change if he is unable to establish himself as a regular in Jose Mourinho’s preferred starting XI.
Will Liverpool sign Aurelien Tchouameni?
Despite Liverpool’s interest in Tchouameni, it seems highly unlikely that he will leave Real Madrid just one year after signing a lucrative contract extension, especially considering he is set to play a prominent role this term.
As a result, Andoni Iraola’s side will likely be forced to pursue an alternative target and it’s understood that a deal for the aforementioned Camara could be finalised, with Liverpool currently ahead of Chelsea in the race to secure his signature.
Meanwhile, the Reds have been linked with England duo Adam Wharton and Alex Scott too, who are widely expected to leave Crystal Palace and Bournemouth respectively next year.
Liverpool are also set to land an out-and-out right winger in 2027, following their failed bids to sign Yankuba Minteh and Ismaila Sarr over the summer.
