While not on par with the big three in Spain, Sevilla used to be a consistent force within La Liga, achieving plenty of European success over the years.

Under former head coach Unai Emery, the team won three Europa League trophies on the bounce between 2014 and 2016, and they also won the trophy in 2021.

Domestic glory was trickier to come by, with their only top-flight title coming way back in 1946. Following their success in the late 2010s, the Andalusian giants have fallen on hard times and have struggled to stay afloat financially.

Operating on a smaller scale and a smaller budget than the biggest teams in the country has meant Sevilla have been forced to be smart in the transfer market.

Below, FootballTransfers runs through their 10 most expensive sales of all time.

10. Sergio Ramos – €27m (to Real Madrid, 2005)

A club legend at Real Madrid, Sergio Ramos started his career at Sevilla after coming through the ranks in their academy system.

The Spaniard made his Sevilla debut in February 2004, and went on to win the U19 Euros with his country that summer.

Ramos was thrust into the first-team squad for the 2004-05 campaign, playing 41 times in all competitions as he cemented his reputation as one of Europe’s best young defenders.

That form caught the eye of Real Madrid, who chucked €27m Sevilla’s way in order to seal a deal. Ramos won 22 trophies for Los Blancos before joining Paris Saint-Germain in 2021. He returned to Sevilla for one season in 2023 and later tried to acquire the club.

9. Grzegorz Krychowiak – €27.5m (to PSG, 2016)

Midfielder Grzegorz Krychowiak joined Sevilla from Stade Reims in 2014, and he won the Europa League in both of his seasons at the club.

After impressing in the centre of midfield under Unai Emery, the Spaniard decided to bring Krychowiak with him to Paris Saint-Germain, ensuring Sevilla lost two key assets in the same summer.

They did, however, turn an impressive profit on the player, earning five times more than they spent on him two years prior.

Krychowiak was loaned to West Brom in 2017 before being sold to Lokomotiv Moscow in 2019.

8. Diego Carlos – €31m (Aston Villa, 2022)

Sevilla doubled their money on Diego Carlos after selling him for €31m to Aston Villa in 2022.

The Brazilian had arrived from Ligue 1 side Nantes for half that amount just three years before, with Sevilla turning him into a player valued by the Premier League.

He formed an impressive partnership with Jules Kounde at the heart of the Sevilla backline, and guided the team to Europa League success in 2021.

7. Kevin Gameiro – €32m (to Atletico Madrid, 2016)

Signed from PSG after scoring 23 goals at the Parc des Princes club, Kevin Gameiro became the main man at Sevilla, with his form catching the eyes of Europe’s big boys.

The Frenchman netted 67 goals during his stint at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium, earning himself a huge move to Atletico Madrid.

His time under Diego Simeone didn’t quite go as swimmingly, scoring 27 goals and leaving after two years. He joined Strasbourg for free in 2021 after a spell at Valencia.

6. Carlos Bacca – €33.3m (to AC Milan, 2015)

Another stellar Sevilla striker, Carlos Bacca, was poached from Club Brugge after the Belgian side had discovered him playing in his native Colombia.

49 goals in 108 Sevilla games caught the attention of AC Milan, who were struggling in Serie A at the time. They decided to spend €33.3m on the forward in 2015; however, Bacca was sold back to La Liga for €7m just three years later.

5. Dani Alves – €35.5m (to Barcelona, 2008)

One of Barcelona’s greatest ever players, Dani Alves, joined the Camp Nou side from Sevilla in 2008. The Brazilian was spotted playing for his boyhood club EC Bahia, and after a loan spell ar Sevilla, the club parted with just €550,000 to sign him in 2003.

Five years of impressive performances later, he was sold for over 60 times what Sevilla spent on him as a youngster. In total, he played over 200 times for Sevilla before becoming a club legend at Barcelona.

The full-back joined Mexican side Pumas on a free transfer in 2022 but was released just a few months later following the emergence of sexual assault allegations. In 2024, he was found guilty of rape, but his conviction was overturned on appeal the following year due to a lack of evidence.

4. Vitolo – €35.6m (to Atletico Madrid, 2017)

Sevilla pulled a masterstroke selling Vitolo for €35.6m to Atletico Madrid in 2017. Signed from Las Palmas after graduating from their academy, Sevilla sold Vitolo four years later after he’d made 177 appearances for the club.

During that time, he scored 28 goals and assisted a further 44, and Atleti were happy to splash the cash on the Spaniard before loaning him to Las Palmas the day after he signed.

He made over 100 appearances for Atletico, but never reached his Sevilla levels.

3. Clement Lenglet – €35.9m (to Barcelona, 2018)

Clement Lenglet spent just 18 months at Sevilla after signing from French club Nancy, but he did enough to convince Barcelona to activate the €35.9m release clause included in his Sevilla contract.

One month after signing, he played 90 minutes as Barcelona beat Sevilla in the 2018 Supercopa de Espana. He was sent off on his La Liga debut for the Blaugrana.

After regularly partnering Gerard Pique during his time at Barcelona, Lenglet fell out of favour under Xavi and joined Tottenham on loan in the 2022 summer transfer window, followed by stints at Aston Villa, Atletico Madrid and Benfica.

2. Wissam Ben Yedder – €40m (to Monaco, 2019)

Wissam Ben Yedder proved to be an excellent signing for Monaco, despite the Ligue 1 club spending a huge €40m to sign him from Sevilla and his eventual departure under a cloud of legal issues.

He had replaced Kevin Gameiro in Spain, arriving in the same summer as his fellow Frenchman left the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium. At Sevilla, Ben Yedder notched 92 goals and assists in just 137 matches, which prompted Monaco to bring the French-born striker back to Ligue 1.

In 2024, Ben Yedder was handed a two-year suspended prison sentence for sexual assault and driving under the influence. Two rape charges from a separate alleged incident were dropped in 2026 due to a lack of sufficient evidence.

1. Jules Kounde – €50m (to Barcelona, 2022)

Despite having a relatively small stature, Kounde established himself as one of the best and most complete defenders during his time at Sevilla.

The Frenchman joined from Bordeaux for €25m in 2019 and won the Europa League in his first season, as well as breaking into the France national team.

Chelsea spent more than a year trying to sign Kounde for around €65m, but he ended up joining Barcelona in 2022 for less money as Sevilla earned a sweet profit on the defender.
