Nigerian-American driver Ugo Ugochukwu has reflected on winning the 2026 FIA Formula 3 Championship, saying the title was his main target from the start of the season.
Speaking in an interview with FIA Formula 3 after securing the championship in Madrid, Ugochukwu said he was pleased to achieve the goal he had set for himself.
“I’m feeling really good, for sure. This was the main goal at the start of the year, to get the championship,” he said.
Ugochukwu finished second in the season-ending race, which was enough to secure the title ahead of Freddie Slater. Tuukka Taponen won the race, while Ugochukwu’s consistent results across the season helped him finish 14 points clear in the championship.
Speaking on the pressure of the final weekend, he said: “Today I knew what I had to do to win the championship. So, it was in my hands to keep it clean, keep the cars behind at bay, and just bring it home to the line.”
The 19-year-old described his title battle with Slater as a strong contest throughout the year.
“For sure this is a great step for my career, really important, and it’s a good step for what’s to come,” he added.
The Formula 3 title is Ugochukwu’s second championship of 2026, following his Formula Regional Oceania title earlier in the year. He said Formula 2 is the next logical step towards his dream of reaching Formula 1, but for now, he is enjoying the achievement.
