Nigerian-born amateur boxer, Isaac Okoh, is targeting another quickfire gold medal for Great Britain, as he eyes European glory so soon after emerging top of his class at the recent Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, Sports247 reports.
This time, though, Okoh will not have the pleasure of home advantage, as he gets set to enter the roped square in Sofia, Bulgaria, where the 2026 European Boxing Championship is underway already, and his first bout is against Poland’s Alexey Sevostyanov.
Fortunately for Okoh, his gold medal in Glasgow put to rest memories of his sordid outing a year earlier at the World Boxing Championship, and he has since been on a fantastic winning run that culminated in glory at the Commonwealth Games.
That achievement has buoyed his confidence, and Okoh believes he is good enough to take any opponent to the cleaners, starting on Sunday, as he aims to keep his newfound winning momentum soaring into the European Championships in Sofia.
“I’m confident I can beat anyone in the world at the minute. It’s going to take a really good fighter to beat me. There’s a lot of great competitors at the weight. I feel like I’m up there and I’m in real contention for a gold medal.
“I’m well up for it, and I fancy my chances against anyone at this tournament. The Commonwealth Games is one of the tournaments you dream of going to and to bring home the gold medal not too far away from home, it’s a proud moment,” Okoh told Sky Sports.
