Benjamin Sesko has confirmed that he is “happy” at Manchester United after Arsenal rejected the chance to sign him last summer.
The Slovenia international was heavily linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium during the final few months of the 2024-25 season, with Mikel Arteta’s team initiating talks with RB Leipzig over a possible blockbuster deal.
However, the Gunners ultimately decided to sign Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP, which allowed Man Utd the opportunity to finalise a €76.5 million move.
The 23-year-old played a bit-part role during his debut campaign at Old Trafford, scoring 12 goals in 32 games across all competitions, and he is yet to work his way into Michael Carrick’s preferred starting XI this term, with Matheus Cunha deployed as a false-nine during the early weeks of the season.
But, while he has only racked up 140 minutes of action from a possible 450 so far this campaign, Sesko has confirmed that he is enjoying life as a Man Utd player.
When asked how he is feeling at Old Trafford ahead of their Manchester derby defeat to City on Sunday, Seso told Sky Sports: “Way better, especially than last season, because obviously I changed the country, everything was new for me.
“But now for me it’s like I’m really enjoying, I’m happy here, I love life here, my teammates are perfect and I can’t really complain about anything.
“Obviously the more games I’m getting, the more comfortable I feel, the more free I feel in the game.
“Then obviously for me the focus is all scoring goals, to provide everything for this club, whether that’s link-up play, or just this little bit things that can be all-around.
“I think it would just come in time but again I’m here and I feel every day better and better and this is the most important.”
Analysis: It’s time for Michael Carrick to trust Benjamin Sesko
Sesko is still yet to nail down a starting berth at Man Utd, but it’s time for that to change.
He has averaged one goal every 140 minutes of action across his time at Old Trafford and while he certainly isn’t the finished product yet, it’s clear that deploying Cunha as a centre forward isn’t quite working.
Bryan Mbeumo is a legitimate alternative through the middle, however he has been forced to stay on the right flank due to Amad Diallo’s injury and it should be a no-brainer for Carrick to finally give Sesko a consistent run of starts.
