A late finish to her boyfriend’s five-set thriller of a US Open quarterfinal match didn’t prevent American soccer star Trinity Rodman from missing training.
Rodman, a top player for the Washington Spirit, watched on as her partner Ben Shelton battled Carlos Alcaraz into the early morning hours of Wednesday.
When Shelton finally managed to put the Spaniard away, it was 3:33am and Rodman needed to be in Washington, DC in seven-and-a-half hours – five of which would be on the road.
Rodman didn’t just make it to training on time: She arrived 90 minutes early, pulling up to practice at 9:30am ET.
She made the 300-mile trek from Flushing Meadows to the Spirit’s training facility in suburban Virginia and documented the journey along the way with a post to TikTok.
Rodman shared she was in an elevator with a 4:14am timestamp before showing that she had made it with a shot of her at the training ground with her gear on.

Then, mere hours later, she arrived in time for training with the Washington Spirit
‘Yes I’m at training now,’ Rodman wrote in the post.
Rodman, who won gold with Team USA at the 2024 Olympics in Paris, has been a consistent presence at Shelton’s matches at the US Open.
She’s made the trek up the Northeast Corridor multiple times over the past few weeks to watch as Shelton makes his run to the semifinals of the Grand Slam tournament.
But if he were to make the final on Sunday, Rodman would be presented with a scheduling conflict.
Shelton takes on fellow American Frances Tiafoe in a semifinal on Friday, September 11.
If he wins, the final would be early on Sunday afternoon – one hour after Rodman and the Spirit kick off their match against the Boston Legacy in the Nation’s Capital.
