Nigerian goalkeeper Rita Akarekor has completed her move to Turkish top-flight side Kayseri Kadın FK, beginning a new chapter of her career in the Kadın Futbol Süper Ligi.
The Turkish club confirmed the arrival of the experienced Nigerian goalkeeper as part of its preparations for the new season, with Kayseri describing Akarekor as a player whose experience and quality will strengthen the squad.
Akarekor, who has represented Nigeria at international level, arrives in Turkey with considerable experience from the Nigerian women’s domestic game.
The goalkeeper was previously associated with Delta Queens in the Nigeria Women’s Premier League and was recognised as the league’s Best Goalkeeper in 2016, an early indication of her quality between the posts.
Her move to Kayseri represents an important opportunity to test herself in European women’s football and compete in one of Turkey’s leading domestic competitions.
Kayseri Kadın FK, based in the city of Kayseri in Central Anatolia, compete in the Turkish Women’s Super League, the country’s top division.
Akarekor’s arrival also adds to Kayseri’s growing Nigerian contingent. The club has embarked on an aggressive recruitment drive from Nigeria ahead of the 2026/27 campaign, previously bringing in players including Oluwabunmi Semilore Oladeji, Blessed Chizameze Isigbo and Cynthia Oriyomi Mega from the Nigerian women’s league.
The increasing presence of Nigerian players at Kayseri highlights the growing pathway for talents from the NWFL and Nigerian football to the Turkish topflight.
For Akarekor, the challenge now is to establish herself as a key figure in Kayseri’s squad and help the Yellow Reds achieve their ambitions in the new season.
With her experience, international exposure and proven ability between the posts, the Nigerian goalkeeper will be expected to bring stability and competition to the team’s goalkeeping department.
