President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has fulfilled his $100,000 reward promise to the Super Falcons following their historic victory at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The players have started receiving payments estimated at about ₦140 million, representing the naira equivalent of the President’s pledge to reward the team for winning their 10th African title.
The Super Falcons made history in July 2025 after coming from two goals down to defeat hosts Morocco 3-2 in a thrilling final and extend their record as the most successful team in the competition.
Team captain Rasheedat Ajibade thanked President Tinubu for fulfilling his promise, describing the payment as a welcome recognition of the team’s achievement.
The payment follows a similar reward given to Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, after they won their fifth consecutive FIBA Women’s AfroBasket title in 2025.
The National Sports Commission (NSC), led by Chairman Shehu Dikko and Director-General Bukola Olopade, also commended the President for supporting Nigerian athletes and honouring his commitment.
The fulfilment of the pledge is expected to encourage the Super Falcons and other Nigerian athletes while recognising their contributions to the country’s sporting success.
