Social media is alight with discussion of a fantastic defensive display by San Diego Padres star Fernando Tatis Jr to keep his team alive.
Tatis did it all for the Padres in their Tuesday evening matchup against the New York Mets in Queens.
After leading off the game with a home run on the first pitch of the night, Tatis flashed the leather with a heroic display.
In the second inning, the Mets had the bases loaded with slugger Francisco Lindor at bat to try and take a 4-1 lead.
Lindor socked a fly ball to right field that was tracking out to give the Mets a much-needed advantage.
But Tatis jumped at the wall to make a leaping catch to rob Lindor of the heroism Mets fans were hoping for.

Tatis’ memorable play with his glove was matched with two home runs to win the game
Defiant, Tatis stared back at Lindor while striking a confident pose as Padres announcer Don Orsillo lost his mind.
If that wasn’t evidence enough that Tatis had returned to form, he followed that up with a two-run blast in the fifth inning to crack the game open and give San Diego a 3-0 lead.
The Mets tried forcing the issue with a solo home run from Luis Torrens that same inning to make the game 3-1.
San Diego scored again in the seventh while Mets outfielder Luis Robert’s eighth-inning solo homer kept the game within two runs going into the ninth.
There, Manny Machado socked a solo shot to bring the game to a 5-2 final score.
The Padres currently sit second in the NL West and are seven games back of the division-leading Los Angeles Dodgers. Currently, they hold onto the last National League Wild Card spot.Β
