After being suspended for the first six games of the season for violating the league’s policy on performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs), Tennessee Titans cornerback Nazeeh Johnson is now blaming his failed test on fertility medication.
What’s more, Johnson said he and his wife Gabrielle recently ‘lost our baby,’ but remains hopeful they can conceive.
‘My wife and I were trying to conceive a child,’ the 28-year-old West Virginia native wrote on X. ‘We found out that I was infertile, and I took a fertility medication that was helping me try to conceive a baby. I was not aware that there was a substance in the medication that was on the banned list, and I tested positive for a PED.
‘Lesson to all NFL players and new players coming into the league: do not put anything in your body without following the process and getting approval beforehand,’ he continued.ย
‘We lost our baby a few weeks ago, and this has been an incredibly difficult time for my wife and me. Fortunately, we have nine good eggs left, so we’re holding on to hope that we’ll be able to grow our family.’
While some fertility medications fall under the category of banned drugs, the NFL does allow for players to apply for therapeutic use exemptions. The Daily Mail has reached out to the league to inquire if Johnson requested such an exemption.

The couple was married in 2023, when Johnson was still a member of the Kansas City Chiefs. Following their black-tie wedding in Miami, Johnson would play two more seasons in Kansas City before signing an offseason deal with the Titans.
But on Friday, Johnson received news he has been suspended for violating the NFL/NFLPA PED policy. As is usually the case, the specific violation has not been articulated by the league or players’ union.
The suspension will prove costly for Johnson, who will miss $350,000 in game checks. The ban won’t start until the regular season begins, meaning he can continue practicing with the team and even participate in preseason games until August 30. After that, he would not be allowed back at the facility until October 19.
A product of Marshall, Johnson won two Super Bowls with the Chiefs, but has struggled with injuries in recent years.ย
