Gold Cup 2026: Ikorodu City, Inter Lagos, Sunshine Stars Shine as Grassrunners Shock Stormers

Matchday 2 of the Ogunjobi Gold Cup 2026 produced another round of exciting encounters, with Inter Lagos, Ikorodu City and Sunshine Stars recording important victories, while Nationwide League One side Grassrunners FC stunned Stormers SC to move top of the standings.

Sports247 reports that Inter Lagos set the tone for the day’s action with a convincing 2-0 victory over Abakaliki FC at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta.

The opening half produced little excitement, with both sides struggling to create clear-cut opportunities. Inter Lagos had a number of half chances but failed to convert, while Abakaliki FC, known as De Rice Boys, found it difficult to penetrate their opponents’ defence.

The second half, however, belonged to Inter Lagos. Their improved attacking play eventually paid off as Monday Emmanuel produced a decisive double, scoring in the 51st and 72nd minutes to secure all three points.

Meanwhile, Ikorodu City bounced back strongly from their Matchday 1 draw against Inter Lagos, defeating Dokkal Khairu FC 3-0.

Moses Ali opened the scoring after 20 minutes before Shola Bada doubled the advantage in the 73rd minute. Ikechukwu Junior completed the scoring six minutes from full time to give the Oga Boys a comfortable victory.

The biggest surprise of the day came from Grassrunners FC, who continued their impressive campaign with a narrow 1-0 victory over Stormers SC.

Ogunrombi Boris scored the decisive goal in the 39th minute, converting a close-range opportunity to hand the NLO side their second consecutive victory. The result moved Grassrunners to the summit with six points.

Stormers SC, meanwhile, suffered their second defeat of the competition and remained without a point.

Doma United also endured another difficult outing, losing 2-0 after failing to capitalise on their opportunities. Abass Yakubu broke the deadlock from the penalty spot in the 71st minute before Gabriel Adepoju added the second six minutes later.

With the competition heating up, Matchday 3 promises another series of crucial encounters as teams battle for valuable points and a place in the next stage.

Grassrunners lead the charge, but with the likes of Ikorodu City and Inter Lagos gathering momentum, the 14th edition of the Ogunjobi Gold Cup remains wide open.
