Robbie Ure insists signing for Spanish outfit Sevilla in a sensational £7.6million deal has proved he was right to walk away from Rangers as a kid.
The 22-year-old Scot has penned a five-year contract at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium after leaving Swedish league leaders IK Sirius – with Sevilla agreeing to pay £5.5million up front and £2.1million in add-ons.
Ure has been a sensation in the Allsvenskan this term with 15 goals on league duty and 20 in all competitions.
The one-time Scotland Under-19 cap initially turned down a contract extension at Rangers in May 2023, following limited first-team opportunities, to move to Belgian giants Anderlecht.
After making just one senior appearance there, he has been a sensation at Sirius and believes that completing a dream move to La Liga has shown he was right to trust himself and quit Ibrox as a 19-year-old.
‘If you had told me four years ago that I was going to be a Sevilla player, I would have been so, so happy,’ he smiled. ‘I think it was a big decision at the time, and for me to be sitting here as a Sevilla player tells me that it was the right decision to make.

‘If you don’t take risks, especially in football, you can always end up thinking of the “what ifs”. To become the best footballer I can be, I have to take risks and challenge myself.
‘When I went to Sirius in Sweden, the plan was to come to one of the top five leagues.
‘Being Scottish, I think a lot of Scottish people like to stay in Scotland, but I wanted to test myself as a player and also as a person. I think I’ve grown in both aspects.’
Ure has also told Sevilla they are getting a deadly goalscorer only destined to get better and better.
‘I think, this season, I’ve become more confident,’ he said. ‘Scoring goals comes down to being cool in the mind, slowing everything down, and really just thinking about you and the ball. This season, I’ve been doing really well.

‘My greatest strength, I want to say, is scoring goals. My main priority when I go onto the pitch is to score goals. I think I have other strengths, of course, but this, for me, is one of my best.
‘I think I have unique attributes that make it difficult to defend against me. I can drop deep to receive the ball, link the game and hold it up, but I can also be a technical player capable of creating chances for others. But I think I can improve everything.’
Ure is eligible to play for Ukraine through a grandparent, but offered a huge hint he is still committed to landing a full Scotland call-up when being informed of the fact Sevilla’s very first president, Edward Johnston, was Scottish.
He said: ‘It means a lot to me. Scotland, of course, is my country, and I’m sure Sevilla now has a lot more Scottish supporters.’
